The CPhI World-wide(Europe) was held in France on October 8-12,2014 ,attracting groups of enterprises to come. During this period, Meng Dongping, Vice Chairwoman of CCCMHPIE, paid a formal visit to France with a group of enterprise executives from 15 domestic healthcare enterprises and then a series of high-level bilateral talks was launched among those healthcare enterprises from China and France. The height of these bilateral talks was unprecedented.
During the visit, Meng visited the head-quarters of Sanofi, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of France, the Medical Device Association with the delegation and met with some industry elites like the sponsor of the CPhI World-wide(Europe) and members from the France Federation of SMEs. This would open up a new road towards healthy conversations between China and France in fields of health and medicine. These deep, practical, high-end and specified conversations enhanced mutual understandings and trusts, winning high praises from many sides.
France is the world’s fifth-largest pharmaceutical market. The pharmaceutical industry, as one of the country’s key industries and the biggest salable exports, features its capacity of R & D, innovation and production and plays an important role in the pharmacy market, even in the European market. Meanwhile the strong export makes it one of France’s four export powerhouses. Its biggest export destination is Europe, accounting for 61 percent, while China accounting for 10.3 percent. Since 2013, there is a growing trend in some emerging markets like Russia and China to purchase the French medicinal products. From 2009-2013, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the trade between China and France reached 14%, and the volume of trade peaked at 29.56 billion dollars. Western medicine covered the most parts of the products exported from France to China, most of which were the hormonal medicines while the medicine products China exported to France were mainly vitamins, analgesics, Heparins APIs and medical devices like X-Ray inspector and massage apparatus, etc. For years China and France have never had a chance to launch such kind of high-level dialogues for some language, cultural and institutional reasons. However, the corporation of China-France medical health industry has a great potential and should be pushed urgently as soon as possible.
