China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products (CCCMHPIE) released 2016 China’s foreign trade data of medical products on 10th Feb, 2017. According China custom’s data, the total import and export data in 2016 reached $103.4 billion, slightly grew by 0.73 percent, the total value of export fell 1.8 percent to $55.4 billion, and imports were worth $48 billion, up 3.8 percent, the trade surplus was $7.4 billion, down 27.3 percent.
Under a declining overseas demand fierce price competition, the export and import of medicines and health products in China have stepped into a low-growth rate period. Meanwhile, the export structure is upgrading, the step of internationalization is accelerating, and the overall situation medical trade is still good.
The export of traditional Chinese medicines saw an overall decline, the export value of plants extracts which account 56.2 percent of total TCM export decreased 14.3 percent in 2016. Export of Medical devices also fell 3.1 percent while import grew 6.3 percent.
The export of preparations to developed markets such as Europe, the United States and Japan. In particular, exports of preparations to the US reached $295 million last year, up 40 percent year-on-year.
