CCCMHPIE holds Seminar on Indian and ASEAN Pharmaceutical Market

On May 2, Seminar on Indian and ASEAN Pharmaceutical Market was held by CCCMHPIE at the 109th China Import and Export Fair. The seminar aims at deepening Chinese enterprises’ understanding of the Indian and ASEAN pharmaceutical markets, enhancing their abilities to withstand risks in foreign markets, further expanding Chinese medicine and health product exports to India and ASEAN, and increasing market share of Chinese pharmaceuticals in emerging markets. More than forty

representatives from about thirty Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises attended the seminar, including China National Medicines and Health Products Import and Export Corporation, Sanjiu Medical and Pharmaceutical Corporation, Shandong Lukang Pharmaceutical Corporation, Shanghai Medicines and Health Products Import and Export Corporation, Sinochem Ningbo, and Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Corporation.

Recent years saw rapid development of pharmaceutical trade of China with ASEAN and India, with trade volume in 2010 reaching $ 4.32 billion and $ 3.89 billion respectively. Ranking after the United States, ASEAN and India have become the second and third largest pharmaceutical export markets of China. In the first quarter of 2011, China’s Pharmaceutical export volume to ASEAN and India amounted to $ 853 million and $ 914 million respectively. How to exploit the strength of Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises and products, and to explore emerging markets like India and ASEAN have become issues of common concern among many participants, especially those in the preparation business.
 

At the seminar, CCCMHPIE Deputy Secretary General Tan Shengcai gave a general introduction to Indian pharmaceutical market, and elaborated on pharmaceutical trade of China with India and ASEAN in recent years. Introductions to other key markets like Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and detailed explanations on insurance and risk prevention of pharmaceutical exports to Africa were also presented by Mr. Tan.
