The 6th "Plant Extracts Development and Innovation of China" Forum Holds in Shanghai
The 6th “Plant Extracts Development and Innovation of China” Forum was successfully held in Shanghai on June 21. Mr. Liu Zhanglin, Vice President of CCCMHPIE attended the forum and gave the opening speech. Representatives from pharmaceutical companies, R&D institutes and international organizations delivered keynote speeches. Other attendants include more than 120 plant extracts companies from China and other countries.
A major category of TCM export products, plant extracts export has registered rapid development in recent years. According to customs statistics, the import and export value of plant extracts in the first quarter of 2011 reached $310 million, a year-on-year increase of 46.4%, among which export value reached $270 million, an increase of 53.4%, accounting for 48.4% of the total TCM export. This showed that plant extracts began to occupy larger share in TCM export.
Though China’s plant extract industry has made huge progress and registered higher industry concentration in recent years, deficiencies still exist, for example, small production scale, low innovation level, weakness in exploring international market, etc. In his opening speech, Mr. Liu Zhanglin, CCCMHPIE Vice President pointed out that in order to seize opportunities and take challenges, the plant extract industry should extend the industrial chain, expand domestic demand, strengthen awareness of quality and safety, improve environment protection standards, strengthen integrity and self-discipline, and ensure its healthy and sustainable development.
